My parents made it out to Portland! Yay!! I am sad they only got one day of sunshine and of course when they leave it has been nice. Oh well! That is how life is. I hope it is nice when Matt's parents come in a week! We did not do too much during their visit. A lot of Granny, Mommy, and Baby shopping while Granddaddy holds down the fort at home and Daddy was working. We went to two Farmer's Markets on Saturday and had a blast. Here are a few pictures from their visit!

VisitsOur friend from College, Kelly came to visit. Her boyfriend has family up in Washington so they decided to also explore Oregon. It was so nice seeing her and we realize it has been almost since our wedding since we have seen her. Way too long!
Our boy is on the go. He can prop himself on all fours, rock, and crawl backwards. No movement forward yet except for the occasional belly flops. He has really long arms so he is able to reach pretty far. He can also crawl forward if you put your arm down by his feet and he pushes off. I think he will be mobile soon. I am not sure how to feel about this...I am a little worried actually...I think my days enjoying a shower while he is playing outside it on the floor are gone.....
Sleeping boy
After my parents left, we decided to nap train G. He either needed to sleep on a human, bounced in his chair, in the car, or in the stroller..all pictured below. Quick note on the car. He use to either sleep or cry in the car when he was in his infant car seat. I am not sure if it is his age or the new car seat, but we do not have any problems. He seems to look out the window and if it is a longer ride or he is tired...he will go to sleep. yay!
WE are on day 2 of nap training. We are doing a little bit of the cry it out....we go in and soothe him every couple of minutes...with more time elapsing each time. He has been doing okay. Not too many tears, but Matt has also dealt with most of it. I have either been teaching Zumba or at the store...unintentionally, but glad I was not here. He has increased his nap time from sleeping 30 minutes on his own after being rocked to sleep to 2 hours now! So glad he is learning to do this and Matt has a couple of days off so he can help me. I think I am too weak. I started putting him down drowsy but awake for about 2 weeks. I tried to not pick him up but went in every time he cried. He usually went to sleep but I would buckle if he got too upset....I am so happy Matt has been strong for all of us. We knew G needed longer naps because he woke tired but wouldn't go back to sleep and that this is best for him in the long run.
My friend Taylor and little baby Nora are officially Canadian residents! It is so sad to see them go, but that is how the life of a doctor is. You may have to leave for fellowship. Her hubby is going for a plastic surgery fellowship. :) Below are a few pictures with Nora and a girls night out/birthday and going away celebration for Taylor.
Our grocery store near our house does not have this miniature shopping cart so I think I am going to buy one for G...not the Fisher Price one because that is easily toppled over...I have seen one that is very sturdy and would be hard to turn over because it has side weights...the only thing holding me back is the hefty price tag..lol
My neighbor friend, Gini, had her second baby. He is too cute! His name is Dylan Nathaniel. It is amazing the growth of babies. I posted a picture of G at 7 months next to a few days old baby. Crazy to think G was ever that little. The other picture is of her older son, Caleb. He loves taking the selfie pictures too. hehe
Here are a few pictures of Grayson and his twin Max. We had a mini playdate with him and his awesome mommy. They are too cute and enjoyed playing with this cool toy called Tobbles. Its like weighted cracked eggs that stack and vary in size and weight. We stack the eggs and the boys demolish them. Eventually they will learn to build. I need to buy this toy still. Way too cool.
Cheese!!!

Matt had an intern retreat at the beach and he asked G and I to tag along. WE drove up the night before after Matt got out of clinic and stayed the night at a beach front hotel. It was a pretty good hotel and beautiful beach. G and I walked the beach and went shopping at the outlets while daddy worked with his fellow interns. Below are pictures from our adventures.
Picture of all the interns about to be 2nd years..Matt is in the back toward the left behind the guy jumping really high with sunglasses and blue shirt.
G trying on a hat that is a bit too big but still cute
After our walk on the beach...G slept the whole time lol
Cool Sand castles..there was a contest the next day that we were unable to stay for since Matt had to work..BOO

I am done with intern year!!! I finished the year on University wards which is the inpatient service for our University hospital. I had done this service around October this year when I was on my second inpatient rotation. At that time it was very overwhelming and humbling and at times frustrating because I felt as though I was doing a poor job. This time around, I felt much more prepared and even like I could do the rotation on my own as a resident. I look forward to the next time I am on this service because it is very educationally stimulating because we often take care of very sick patients (are transferred from community hospitals because they can not manage or figure out the diagnosis).
It is nice to have a few days off between the years before I start my next year. I get a nice start to my year next year by consulting on the rheumatology consult service which is notoriously light and consists of a lot of clinic time. The next week I am going to be on clinic. Then...my first official rotation as a second year is night float on the University inpatient service. I will be in charge of admitting four patients to the hospital with no attendings present (though they are always available by phone, and hospitalists, ICU fellows, and other residents are in the hospital) as well as supervising a new intern who will be doing cross cover for the ~40-50 patients on the other teams.
As I reflect back on my intern year, I realize it has been a year of tremendous change. We are in a new city, in our first home, with the birth of our beautiful boy who is growing so quickly. At the hospital, I am feeling so much more confident in my ability compared to a year ago. There is a great group of people surrounding me at work and at home we are part of a great neighborhood with some new friends over the year. I look forward to the coming years but I am happy to be one rung higher on the ladder than I was before.
